Connor's Second Camping Trip

August 20 - August 21, 2005

Trip #1 was such a success that we decided to go on Connor Camping Trip #2.  This time we went to Rocky Mountain National Park.  It was another great trip.
Long's Peak dominates the skyline just about everywhere on the east side of the park.  There was a tree in our campsite blocking this view, so I had to take two steps to the left to get this shot.

Just seeing the peak made me think I wanted to start climbing, but my wife told me I wanted to stay with the family.  Apparently, she knows me better than I know myself.

Here are Mommy, Tyler, and Connor (in the car seat) in the campsite.
On Saturday, we took "Bertie" the bus up to Bear Lake and then hiked about a mile up to Nymph lake.  Both boys had fun here.
Tyler, especially had fun throwing sticks and pinecones and rocks into the water.
Here are the boys with their mom in front of Nymph lake.
Daddy and Connor played "throw the baby into the air".  It made Connor giggle.
After lunch, Mom went off to feed Connor.  Tyler and Daddy did some minor rock-climbing.  This is a timer shot from the top of the rocks.
This is Tyler in the same spot.
Here is another timer picture.  Tyler didn't like this shot as much because it was not the highest spot.
Here Tyler is trying to jump off the rocks while Dad holds onto him.  Silly boy.

Nice background, though, don't you think?

And here is the whole family as we are getting ready to hike back down to Bear Lake and the bus stop.
Tyler really likes to play his leap pad, even when camping.  Grandpa Dale really did a good job picking this out a couple years ago.
Sunday, we spent some time in the Moraine.  Here is Connor and Daddy by the river.
And all three boys.

What a fun camping trip!!

Connor's First Camping Trip

July 22 - July 24, 2005

At 3 months old, we decided it was high-time to start Connor camping.  After Connor's birth, we had bought a nice 6-person tent to replace our little 4 person tent, so that we would have plenty of room.  Connor had recently consistently slept through the night, so Mommy really had no reason to put off his first trip anymore.
We decided to try a new campsite (new to us) along the Platte River called Lone Rock campground.  It is about 10 or 15 miles South of where Daddy and Tyler did the "Me and My Dad" camp trip.

We got there on a hot Friday afternoon, and set up the tent without the rain fly.  Luckily we didn't need it that night.

The photo to the right is Connor on the picnic table in front of the new tent.

Mommy and Tyler playing Frisbee.

I am not sure what they are both looking at.

Daddy and Connor during supper.  Connor spent most of the time smiling at us.  Apparently he was having lots of fun.

Tyler in front of the campfire.
Tyler spent a lot of time asking to go down to the river, going to the river, in the river, coming back from the river, or talking about how he had  been in the river.
Our campsite was very close to the Hayman burn area of a couple years ago.  Mommy and Daddy used to go back-packing quite a bit in the Lost Creek Wilderness before the fire (and then having kids) and it had been more than 4 years since we had been back to the area.

On Saturday, we decided to check out "Goose Creek Trail" to see how accessible things were up that way.  You can see the burned trees, but after the first quarter mile or so things were untouched.
Daddy hopes to go back-packing back here before the end of the year. (see Sheppy Quest 2005)

We found an nice little spot along Goose Creek to have a picnic.  Tyler liked to throw things in the water.  Connor liked to look at the running water.

Rain clouds started rolling in after lunch and we decided to head home.  Our tent still did not have a rain - fly on it.

We got back just in time to get the rain-fly back on before it started raining.  The rain nicely cooled things down.

Here, Tyler and Connor are lying in the tent, listening to the rain and laughing at each other.

Here are the 3 youngest of the Colorado Shepards sitting by the fire.  The rain obviously cooled stuff down enough to wear long sleeves.
Mommy and Connor hypnotized by the fire.  Aren't they cute together?
Sunday, we headed down the river for a couple of pictures.  We have not taught Connor to look at the camera through the whole timer process.
